Summerside Boys and Girls Club members Desiree Lapierre, left, Rhiannon Carpenter and Wilson Lecky, right, pose for a photo with Summerside native Darryl Boyce, who played 46 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Boyce is among the long-list of celebrities teeing off in this year's Summerside Boys and Girls Club Mark's Work Wearhouse Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Summerside Golf Club general manager, Dallas Desjardins, and men’s club president, Jamie Lund, present the Club’s men’s 2011 championship plaque to first-time winner and junior golfer Adam Gallant.
Club General Manager Dallas Desjardins was recently recognized as the 2011 Murray Tucker Golf Professional of the Year, one of the highest honours the PGA of Canada Association can bestow on a working club professional whose total contributions to the game best exemplify the complete PGA of Canada Professional.
John Schurman hits a tee shot during Sunday's second round of the Lobster Carnival golf tournament at the Summerside Golf Club. Schurman won the Clark's Toyota Cup as top overall golfer in the 36-hole event. "It hasn't sunk in yet, but it feels good," said Schurman, 46. "It's something that I've wanted to accomplish, but haven't been able to get it done since I got my amateur status back in '05."
What started out as a leisurely round of golf quickly became a memorable one for a Summerside native on Thursday night (Sept 1, 2011). John Schurman shot a 64 to equal the Summerside Golf Club course record that is also shared by Neil MacFadyen and Darren Dawson.
Katie White held off a final round charge by Sherry White of Belvedere to claim the 2011 annual Lobster Carnival golf tournament. "For sure there was some pressure and some nerves, but I made it into some positive energy," said Katie, referring to the pressure-filled putt. It was the second Lobster Carnival ladies' title for White, who also won in 2007.
